Three customs officials detained: case involving concealment of Cargo from Customs Control at “Agarak” checkpoint sent to court
A criminal proceeding investigated by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee has revealed that three officials from the Customs Service of the RA State Revenue Committee were involved in a scheme to conceal cargo from customs control. The preliminary investigation of the case has concluded, and the materials, along with the indictment, have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court.
According to the investigation data, on December 10, 2025, the Head of the Customs Service and Control Department of the SRC, his deputy, and a customs inspector from the same department allowed a truck entering Armenia through the “Agarak” checkpoint to bypass X-ray inspection and conceal taxable cargo. Under the direction of the deputy head of the department, the cargo was subsequently removed from the truck, and security measures were applied only formally for the purpose of later photography.
According to the investigative body’s assessment, as a result of the officials’ actions, the cargo was not subjected to customs control, and customs duties were not collected, causing particularly large-scale damage to the state amounting to 11.3 million AMD.
Charges have been brought against the department head, his deputy, and the customs inspector, as well as a representative of the company, under the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code. Detention has been applied as a self-restraint measure for the department head and the deputy, while a ban on absence, a 5 million AMD bail, and suspension from office were applied for the customs inspector.
The preliminary investigation has concluded, and the materials, along with the indictment, have been sent to the RA Anti-Corruption Court.
