Artur Sargsyan to remain under house arrest for another 3 months
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Karen Farkhoyan, has extended the house arrest of Artur Sargsyan, a supporter of the “Srbazan Payqar” (Sacred Struggle) movement and an MP from the “Hayastan” (Armenia) faction of the National Assembly, for an additional three months.
Addressing the court, Artur Sargsyan stated that he does not accept the charges and considers them political persecution.
Defense attorney Aram Vardevanyan emphasized in court that Sargsyan has demonstrated proper conduct both while in “Vardashen” Penitentiary Institution and during his house arrest. According to him, the MP left his place of residence four times during this period to visit a medical facility, having notified the Probation Service in advance and returning home within the specified timeframe.
The lawyer also noted that Sargsyan is the sole breadwinner of his family and proposed replacing the preventive measure with bail or applying other combined restrictions, such as a ban on leaving and administrative supervision.
The prosecutor stated that although the grounds for the legitimacy of the preventive measure have decreased to some extent, the existing risks persist. He argued that it is necessary to maintain the current restrictions to ensure the proper conduct of the accused. The decision also upheld the existing restrictions, including the ban on hosting other persons, except for close relatives and defense attorneys.
Sargsyan has been in custody since July 9, 2025. On December 1, his preventive measure was changed to house arrest, which, by a decision on December 4, was extended until March 8, 2026. The court has now decided to extend it for another three months.
