Anti-Corruption Committee Charges Former Head of Ijevan over Illegal Land Sale
The Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) of the Republic of Armenia has concluded the preliminary investigation of the criminal case concerning the former head of the Ijevan community: he has been charged with abuse of official authority.
The investigation revealed that the former Community Head, Vardan Ghalumyan, exploiting his official position, recognized a community land plot as subject to alienation on unsubstantiated grounds and sold it to a resident of the same community at a price three times lower than its cadastral value. The case concerns a land plot with a total area of 1,385 sq. meters, part of which (1,285.0 sq. meters) was sold, while the right of ownership for the other part was recognized in violation of legal requirements.
According to investigative data, the head organized the transaction due to personal self-interest: a sales contract was signed with the citizen, based on which the latter registered the mentioned land plot as private property in the state registry.
The former Community Head has been charged under Part 1 of Article 308 of the former RA Criminal Code, which is equivalent to Part 1 of Article 441 of the new Criminal Code of 2022. The case, along with the indictment, has been sent to the RA Anti-Corruption Court.
Notice: An individual accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code, by a legally binding court verdict.
