Materials of the Criminal Proceedings Against Garegin II’s Brother and Nephew Sent to Court
The Prosecutor’s Office has submitted the criminal proceedings to the court, related to the incident of hindering the pre-election campaign of the “Hanrapetutyun” (Republic) party participating in the Local Self-Government (LSG) elections of the enlarged Vagharsapat community in Armavir province on November 16, 2025.
Within the framework of the criminal case, it was revealed that Garegin II’s brother Gevorg Nersisyan and nephew Hambardzum Nersisyan, with the intent to obstruct the pre-election campaign of the “Hanrapetutyun” party representatives, uttered curses and indecent expressions and prevented the campaign from taking place in the Vostkehat settlement. T
he preliminary investigation also established that they drove around the pre-planned meeting locations in their cars with the aim of disrupting the campaign. On November 2, 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office initiated public criminal prosecution against them under Article 211, Part 2, Point 5 of the Criminal Code. Gevorg Nersisyan and Hambardzum Nersisyan have been arrested.
Attorney Ara Zohrabyan, in turn, published a video and noted that the incident is being presented in a distorted manner. According to him, Hambardzum Nersisyan simply refused to participate in the party’s meeting, and the conversation proceeded without clashes.
The incident occurred as follows: Around 14:40 on November 1, Hambardzum was standing in front of his house gate when a man approached him and offered him to attend the “Hanrapetutyun” party’s meeting scheduled for 16:00. Hambardzum refused; the man tried to persuade him; they talked, and then Hambardzum’s father, Gevorg Nersisyan, approached; the three talked and parted peacefully.
Local residents have stated the same. It should be recalled that the tension between the authorities and the church has deepened recently. Currently, the leader of the “Srbazan Payqar” (Holy Struggle) movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the Primate of the Shirak Diocese, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, the Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese, Mkrtich Srpazan (Reverend Mkrtich), and the Chancellor Garegin Arsenyan are under arrest. It should be noted that Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, the Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese, is the son of the sister of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.
