A 25-year-old inmate transferred to the Artik Penitentiary attempted self-harm as a sign of protest
The 25-year-old inmate, identified as H.S., who was transferred from the Nubarashen Penitentiary to Artik, is being held in a solitary cell at the new location. Some time after the transfer, the young man resorted to self-harm to demonstrate his opposition to the change of his place of detention.
On November 13, the staff of the Artik Penitentiary Institution (ՔԿՀ – Penal Institution) transported him to the Gyumri Medical Center; doctors recorded “incised wounds on the left forearm.” The Medical Center informed the police that the young man refused to explain the circumstances under which he sustained the injury.
Later, Artil Senior Community Police Officer Aleksanyan discovered that the inmate had broken the sink in his cell and inflicted injuries on himself with the fragments. According to preliminary data, no one incited him to take such a step, and the reason was the transfer from Nubarashen to Artik.
The inmate is charged with committing robbery (Part 2 of Article 175 of the Criminal Code) and remains in custody.
