The restrictive measure applied against Alexander Kochubaev has been lifted
The restrictive measure applied against lawyer Alexander Kochubaev—the ban on leaving the place of residence (absence prohibition)—has been lifted. This information was reported by lawyer Erik Aleksanyan.
We remind you that on October 16, law enforcement officers detained Kochubaev from the building of the Shengavit Court. According to published information, the reason was his harsh Facebook post featuring a photograph of Archbishop Mkrtich. On October 17, he was judicially remanded for two months.
During the detention, the lawyer’s wife’s health deteriorated following childbirth. Due to this circumstance, lawyer Erik Aleksanyan addressed an open letter to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, requesting the cancellation of the arrest (detention) and the softening of the restrictive measure. On October 28, Kochubaev’s detention was replaced by a ban on leaving the place of residence. Currently, no restrictive measure of any kind has been chosen against him.
Kochubaev has been charged under Part 2 of Article 490 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (RA) for publishing information that discredits or damages the rights and legitimate interests of a judge, prosecutor, or investigator.
