Israel and Hezbollah have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Lebanon

Israel and the Hezbollah movement have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Lebanon. This was announced on Tuesday, November 26, by U.S. President Joe Biden, following which Israeli officials confirmed the ceasefire agreement.

The agreement includes a 60-day suspension of military operations. For negotiators, this may serve as a basis for a truce. During this period, Hezbollah is expected to withdraw 40 kilometers from Israel’s border. While Israeli ground forces are to leave Lebanese territory.

U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron will ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire, which was reached with their support. The agreement is based on UN Resolution 1701. This was adopted in 2006 to address the Lebanon War.

Israeli media reports that Israel has pledged to resume military operations if the agreement is violated.

Israel’s ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon began on October 1. It was preceded by the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on September 27. Since September 23, 3,823 people have been killed and 15,859 injured.
