Minister of Defense provides details on the case of suicide in the army a few days ago
Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia (RA), stated in a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly that Smbat Kirakosyan, who sustained a fatal gunshot wound, was serving in the north-eastern direction of the Armenian Armed Forces.
The Minister noted that the case is entirely under the jurisdiction of the RA Investigative Committee (IC) and, due to the interests of the preliminary investigation, he cannot provide additional details at this stage.
Responding to the criticisms regarding deaths in the army, alleging that murders are often presented as suicides, Papikyan mentioned that this is precisely why he is refraining from comments, in order to ensure the objective course of the investigation.
It should be recalled that on December 12, the Ministry of Defense announced that the body of serviceman Smbat Kirakosyan was found with a gunshot wound.
Later, the Investigative Committee reported that, according to preliminary data, the serviceman fired a shot to the head with his assigned weapon, as a result of which he died.
