Iranian Ambassador does not rule out new joint Armenian-Iranian military exercises
Defense cooperation between Armenia and Iran may deepen, and joint military exercises may continue. This was stated by the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami.
According to him, the relations between the two countries are developing in various directions, including the military sphere, and joint exercises are a natural component of that cooperation. The Ambassador did not rule out that such events could be repeated in the future and have a broader scope.
Referring to the visit of the RA Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan to Iran, Shirgholami noted that it was pre-planned and was not conditioned by regional developments. According to him, during the visit, the parties will discuss various areas of cooperation and attempt to expand already established ties.
The Ambassador also emphasized that the Armenian-Iranian border is of great importance for both countries and is viewed as a border of peace. In his assessment, bilateral relations are continuously developing in the military, political, economic, academic, and cultural sectors.
As a reminder, the special forces units of Armenia and Iran last conducted a joint military exercise in April 2025.
