
Arthur Atabekyan has been elected as the President of the Supreme Judicial Council
According to the Judicial Department, Arthur Atabekyan has been elected as the President of the Supreme Judicial Council with 7 votes in favor. He replaces Karen Andreasian, who resigned on November 18.
After the latter’s resignation, the first elections held on November 28 were unsuccessful. The 5 candidates nominated for the position of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council were unable to gather the necessary number of votes. Arthur Atabekyan was among them. He has been working in the judicial system since 2005. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Supreme Judicial Council. Since 2024, he has served as a judge of the Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) is a constitutional body of the Republic of Armenia responsible for ensuring the independence of the judiciary, the appointment of judges, the termination of their powers, and the management of processes related to their accountability.
