During the protests in Tbilisi, 298 people were arrested, and 143 police officers were injured

In Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, 298 people were arrested and 143 police officers were injured during the protests, according to the country’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandr Darakhvelidze.

Darakhvelidze stated that some of the protesters, who participated in the demonstrations in front of the parliament, used violence against the police. Regarding the controversial elections and recent developments concerning the country’s EU membership path, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili accused the opposition and their supporters of sowing instability.

The protests are against Prime Minister Kobakhidze’s decision to suspend the country’s EU membership negotiations on November 28, and they have been continuing for the seventh consecutive day in various cities.

Kobakhidze suspended the EU membership talks for four years after the European Parliament rejected the results of the elections held in the country on October 26.

Georgia, which was previously part of the Soviet Union, has enshrined its goal of joining the EU in its constitution.

In Tbilisi, protesters gathered near the parliament building in the evening and blocked Rustaveli Avenue. The police have implemented extensive security measures in the area.
