Ararat Mirzoyan speaks at PACE regarding the release of 19 captives
During his speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, emphasized that the release of the 19 Armenian captives still held in Azerbaijan could become a crucial step in the Armenia-Azerbaijan reconciliation process.
The Minister stressed that in recent years, Armenia has undergone severe trials—the war and its subsequent humanitarian consequences—yet has made a conscious choice for peace, taking steps that allow for progress toward peace.
The Minister noted that the release of 4 Armenian captives from Azerbaijan inspires hope that the return of the remaining 19 captives and the clarification of the fate of missing persons will also be possible.
Mirzoyan also expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for supporting the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As a reminder, on January 14, Azerbaijan returned 4 captives to Armenia: Davit Davtyan, Gevorg Sujyan, Vigen Euljekjian, and Vagif Khachatryan.
Currently, 19 Armenian captives are being held in Azerbaijan, among whom are representatives of the former political and military leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh.
