EU mission in Armenia appoints new head of mission
The Council of the European Union has appointed Finnish police officer Satu Koivu as the new Head of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA). She will assume office on February 20, succeeding the current head, Markus Ritter.
The decision to appoint the new head was adopted on February 17 by the EU Political and Security Committee.
Satu Koivu has over 35 years of national and international experience. She has held leadership positions in UN and EU missions in the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Namibia, and Cyprus. Prior to this appointment, she served at the National Police Board of Finland as the Head of Human Resources.
The EU Mission in Armenia conducts observation and reports on the situation on the Armenian side of the border line between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The mission’s mandate is scheduled to last until February 19, 2027.
The mission comprises more than 200 staff members, including international and local experts representing 25 EU member states and Canada.
