The Church has filed a lawsuit

The Armenian Apostolic Church has filed two lawsuits in court against Father Aram, who has been defrocked (laicized).

The Church demands that he be compelled to return the keys to the Hovhannavank Church, located in the village of Ohanavan in the Aragatsotn region.

Furthermore, the lawsuit seeks to prohibit the priest, declared defrocked by the Mother See, from entering several sections of the Hovhannavank Church, specifically the Holy Altar, the vestry, and the nave.

In the second lawsuit, the Church demands the cleric return apartment 18 in the building located at 54/3 Arshakunyats Avenue in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan, which belongs to the Church by right of ownership. It also seeks the eviction of individuals residing with the priest.

Among the Church’s demands is the recovery of court costs for both lawsuits from the defrocked priest, as well as the amount of pre-paid state duties.

As a reminder, on October 21, 2025, by the decree of Garegin II, Father Aram Asatryan was defrocked. According to the Mother See, the latter discredited the Church, the diocesan leader, and the clergy through public speeches and statements.

Nevertheless, the priest continues to serve liturgies at the Hovhannavank Church.
