Science rudget increases from 14.3 to 42 billion AMD
Nikol Pashinyan has announced that financing for the science sector in Armenia has significantly increased in recent years.
According to him, the 2025 science budget has increased by 2.8 times, or 180 percent, compared to 2017.
The Prime Minister noted that while financing for the sector amounted to 14.3 billion AMD in 2017, it has already reached 42 billion AMD in 2025.
According to Pashinyan, the funds were allocated in two main directions: increasing the salaries of researchers through a certification system, and the acquisition of scientific instruments and equipment.
He presented several indicators of salary growth. Specifically, the salary of a laboratory assistant or engineer has increased from 67,000 AMD to 138,000 AMD. The salary of a senior laboratory assistant has grown from 76,000 AMD to 179,000 AMD. The salary of a junior researcher has risen from 85,000 AMD to 210,000 AMD, while that of a researcher has gone from 90,000 AMD to 276,000 AMD.
The salary of a senior researcher has increased from 99,000 AMD to 343,000 AMD, and that of a leading researcher from 114,000 to 443,000 AMD. The salary of a chief researcher has risen from 138,000 AMD to 552,000 AMD. Growth was also recorded for heads of scientific groups and departments, increasing from 129,000 to 410,000 AMD and from 141,000 to 477,000 AMD, respectively.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that between 2021 and 2025, approximately 20 billion AMD was allocated for the acquisition of scientific instruments and equipment, which were provided to various research institutes and universities.
According to him, one of the most important components of these acquisitions is the Artificial Intelligence Center — a supercomputer — acquired for Yerevan State University through state budget funds, with approximately 3.7 billion AMD spent on its procurement.
