More than 1,000 Armenian trucks are stranded at Upper Lars
Armenian trucks have been stranded at Upper Lars for the eighth consecutive day. Reports indicate that approximately 1,057 Armenian trucks are stuck in line. In total, 3,608 vehicles from various countries are waiting to cross the Upper Lars checkpoint. This was reported by the North Ossetian Road Traffic Organization Center.
Although the road leading to the Upper Lars checkpoint reopened for all vehicles on November 30, traffic congestion persists. The Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway had been closed to trucks since November 25 due to heavy snowfall.
A 23-kilometer-long two-layer concrete road, including 5 bridges and 5 tunnels, is planned to be constructed as a bypass for the most dangerous section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway. Upon completion, the route will be shortened by nearly an hour and will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. The road length will be 9 kilometers.
