The Environmental and Subsoil Inspection Body has issued a statement regarding a report of mountain destruction in the administrative area of Goght village in Garni community, Kotayk province.
As a result, the head of the Garni community, Tigran Poghosyan, was fined 50,000 AMD and ordered to pay 224,537 AMD in compensation for environmental damage. For the same reasons, citizen K.G. was also fined (30,000 AMD + 221,484 AMD).
As part of the administrative proceedings, it was revealed that during road construction works carried out by the Garni Municipality, 5,811 square meters of land were degraded, and due to excavation and leveling works conducted by citizen K.G., 5,732 square meters of fertile agricultural land were damaged, – the statement stated.
According to the Inspection Body, the landworks were carried out without the necessary documentation.
To obtain clarifications on this matter, AMNEWS contacted the head of the community.
The area in question belonged to the community and was an inter-field road. Only leveling work was carried out on the road. Part of the road was leveled by the community, while the other part was done by a resident. There had been a road there for a long time, which people used to access their land plots. However, residents approached the community, stating that it was difficult to reach their plots, so the community took measures to address the issue.
In other words, the residents approached the community to resolve the issue. The municipality took certain measures and began leveling the road, as a result, both the community and the resident carrying out the work were fined.
