Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had previously stated on June 17, 2021, during the First Channel’s pre-election debate, that there have been hundreds of missing persons on the Armenian side since the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Specifically, while presenting data on the victims, missing persons, and prisoners of the 44-day war, Pashinyan noted that, as of that time, the number of victims was 3,705, with 268 people missing or whose whereabouts were unknown. The number of confirmed prisoners, according to the acting prime minister, was 60.

However, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), 4,500 people are considered missing due to the 1991-1994 war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

Zara Amatuni, head of the ICRC communication program in Armenia, revealed that the number of missing persons on the Armenian side from the First Nagorno-Karabakh War to the present is about 1,000. Of these, 700 are from the First War, and 300 are from the period between 2020 and 2023.
