Violations have been discovered at the “Children’s Home” institution in Gyumri

Representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office of Armenia have visited the “Children’s Home” institution in Gyumri, where several violations were discovered. During the visit, it was found that the communal and sanitary-hygienic conditions, clothing, food, medications, and other supplies did not meet the standards.

Due to insufficient space in the rooms, boys and girls were receiving care together. Additionally, some of the bathrooms were not separated from the bedrooms. Caregivers had mixed up the children’s towels and provided them with dirty brushes. Expired medications were also found. The institution did not have special facilities to meet the needs of children with disabilities. The right to education for the children was also not ensured.

This is not the first time the “Children’s Home” institution has attracted media attention. In December 2024, a criminal case was initiated regarding the cruel treatment of young children by a caregiver and a nurse.
