Over the past 6 years, passenger flow from Armenia to the EU via air transport has increased by approximately 400%

According to data from the first six days of the current year, the number of passengers arriving in Armenia by air transport increased by 19.8% compared to the same days in 2024. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shared this information on his Facebook page.

Overall, the passenger flow via air transport has grown by nearly the same rate. According to data received from the EU, since 2018, passenger flow from Armenia to the EU via air transport has increased by about 400%.

The dialogue on visa liberalization between Armenia and the European Union began in September 2023, during a visit to Yerevan by European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas. This step contributes to deepening Armenia-EU relations by simplifying access for Armenian passport holders to the Schengen Area.

If the EU decides to liberalize the visa regime as a result of the dialogue, Armenian citizens will be able to travel to the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism, family visits, or short-term business trips.

Visas will apply solely for tourism purposes, with short-term visas being issued. Other types of visas will follow the previous procedures.

The main stages of the visa liberalization process include the initiation of the dialogue, an action plan, performance evaluation, and the final decision.

Key requirements include border management, document security, combating corruption and organized crime, and protecting human rights. To address these requirements, an Armenia-European Union working group has been established. This is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

The visa liberalization process may take several years. For example, in Georgia, the process took about five years, while in Ukraine, it lasted 9 years.
