The Goal of Reducing Working Hours in Armenia is to Enhance Work-Life Balance and Productivity

A draft law in Armenia aims to reduce working hours by one hour, setting them to 7 hours a day, with the goal of regulating the work-life domain and improving work efficiency.

The draft law on amendments to the Labor Code of the Republic of Armenia proposes reducing the working hours. Weekly hours will decrease from 40 to 35, but the established salary will remain the same.

Ruben Sargsyan explained that the basis of the proposal is the “Three 8’s” concept, meaning a person should rest for 8 hours in order to be able to work effectively. The goal of the project is to regulate the work-life balance, giving employees more free time to manage it effectively.

Sargsyan also mentioned that some sectors in Armenia have already adopted a 7-hour workday without negative outcomes. He added that discussions on the draft law will be held within the next 10 days.
