Yerevan air is unhealthy for sensitive groups

During the operational consultation of the Yerevan City Hall, data on the city’s air quality for November 2025 were presented. According to data recorded by 184 monitoring stations, the level of harmful particulate matter in the air was noticeably high. This is especially true for the month of November; the City Hall records that the air in Yerevan has fallen into the unhealthy range for sensitive groups.

Specifically, the averaged value for PM 2.5 was 142, and for PM 10 it was 64. For comparison, in November 2024, these indicators were 101 and 53, respectively, which points to a significant deterioration in air quality.

It is also noted that the most challenging situation was recorded between November 20 and 30, when the Air Quality Index for PM 2.5 reached 180, indicating a sharp deterioration.

The City Hall informs that the data from the last few days have somewhat improved, and the sensors show a downward trend.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan stressed at the session that issues related to air quality must be monitored in all administrative districts. He recalled that the burning of leaves is strictly prohibited, and the occurrence of such cases is unacceptable given the standards of work for municipal structures.

Despite the City Hall making comparisons with 2024, at that time too, a response indicated that the amount of dust in the air had increased in all administrative districts of the capital. Even then, the air was considered unhealthy for both sensitive groups and individuals without underlying health issues. At that time, the City Hall also cited the burning of various types of fuel during the winter season as a contributing factor to air pollution.
