Current situation at Upper Lars and on the roads of Armenia
Due to adverse weather conditions, the Upper Lars checkpoint has been temporarily closed for heavy trucks. The Roads Department of Georgia reports that restrictions on the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway are due to blizzards and a sharp decrease in visibility.
At the same time, it is noted that the border checkpoint remains open for light passenger vehicles. It is worth recalling that the strategically important Upper Lars road is the only land link between Armenia and Russia through the territory of Georgia.
Meanwhile, in Armenia, as of 8:00 PM on December 26, winter precipitation continues in several provinces. Snowfall has been recorded in the regions of Ararat, Vayk, Sisian, Meghri, and Goris, as well as at the Vardenyats Pass.
Fog is reported in the Saravan-“Zanger” road section, where visibility does not exceed 30–40 meters. It is noted that all interstate and republican highways of the republic are open, with snow removal and salt-sand treatment operations underway.
Drivers are urged to follow traffic rules and travel only with winter tires.
