Hayk Marutyan explains how citizens can boycott the public transport fare increase

Former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, posted a video on his Facebook page, explaining how citizens can boycott the rise in public transport fares.

Marutyan suggested placing a 100-dram coin in the front section of the bus, where passengers used to leave their payment and collect change. He mentioned that while drivers might respond to this action, Marutyan urged citizens not to engage with them, as drivers have no legal basis to interfere or demand passengers to get off.

He also added that it is not mandatory to pay with a 100-dram coin; smaller denominations like 50-dram coins can also be used. Marutyan encouraged citizens to join this initiative.

The municipality announced that 4 methods of fare payment are planned: transport cards, QR codes, a mobile application, and bank cards. The fare for one trip will be 300 drams.
