Population growth recorded in both urban and rural areas of Armenia

According to the “Demographic Handbook of Armenia 2025” published by the Statistical Committee, the country’s urban population has reached 1,971,200, while the rural population stands at 1,105,000.

Compared to the previous year, the urban population increased by 55,900, and the rural population grew by 29,100. Experts consider this a positive demographic shift, especially considering the emigration trends of recent years.

By province (marz), Kotayk ranks first in terms of urban population with 160,800 residents, while the highest number of rural residents was recorded in the Ararat province, totaling 192,000 people.

Despite the Kotayk province holding the first place by the number of urban dwellers, Gyumri remains the most urbanized city after Yerevan, with a population of 114,000.

Overall, 3,076,000 people reside in Armenia, of whom 1,141,000 live in Yerevan. The next most populous province is Kotayk, followed by Ararat and Armavir. The Vayots Dzor province has the smallest population, with approximately 49,000 residents.

Demographic data indicate that while the population growth is not uniform, the trends are generally positive, which could impact both socio-economic programs and regional development policies.
