The “Mother Armenia” Faction Files Lawsuit Demanding Annulment of “Red Line” Parking Tariffs

On January 23, the “Mother Armenia” faction of Yerevan’s City Council filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court, demanding the annulment of provisions related to paid parking tariffs.

At the end of 2023, Yerevan’s City Council approved new parking tariffs. In the central district, the annual fee for “red line” parking increased from 12,000 AMD to 160,000 AMD. Outside the central district, the annual fee was set at 24,000 AMD. Fees for hourly, weekly, and monthly parking also increased. For instance, the fee for 1 hour of parking, which was previously 100 AMD, was raised to 300 AMD in Zone “A” and 200 AMD in Zone “B” starting January 1, 2024.

On December 19, 2024, the Administrative Court declared the parking tariff decision invalid. However, on December 24, the ruling faction of Yerevan’s City Council revisited the issue during a council meeting and approved it again. Of the 53 registered council members, 32 voted in favor, none opposed, and one abstained. The quorum would not have been met if one member had been absent.

At the time, Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan stated that the decision had not yet come into legal force and could still be appealed.
