The Melody After the Rain: Studying at the Conservatory Becomes Challenging

Due to heavy rains, studying at Yerevan’s Komitas State Conservatory has become challenging.

Classrooms on the conservatory’s fourth floor are unusable, with walls and floors dampened. The heavy rain has damaged musical instruments. From September 16 to 18, students continued their classes in the rector’s and vice-rector’s offices, as well as in foyers and hallways.

Renovations began in 2022, progressing in multiple stages. According to the agreement, the first building was entirely vacated. The roofs of the second and third buildings were supposed to be completed by September 1. However, this agreement was not honored.

Tsovinar Movsisyan, the acting rector of the conservatory, mentions that over time, the musical instruments will inevitably deteriorate.

Covering the instruments with polyethylene bags is not a solution. The LLC will only be conducting cosmetic repairs, and there is no compensation planned for the damaged instruments. Completion of the roofing is promised by September 28.

The “Bedeck” company won the tender for the construction work. Hasmik Safaryan, the procurement specialist, mentioned that all deadlines according to the contract are being followed. However, there is no update on the roof construction completion by September 28.

The contract between the Urban Development Committee and “Bedeck” LLC, signed on October 3, 2020, amounts to 2 billion 671 million drams. The work is expected to be completed by 2026.
