Second-generation banknotes to be withdrawn from circulation

According to the Central Bank, after April 15, 2026, citizens can exchange all second-generation banknotes at all banks operating within the territory of the Republic of Armenia, as well as at the Central Bank, free of charge and without any restrictions.

The Central Bank recalls that it was announced as early as April 28, 2025, that starting from April 15, 2026, second-generation banknotes with nominal values of 1000, 5000, 10000, and 20000 AMD—featuring images of Yeghishe Charents, Hovhannes Tumanyan, Avetik Isahakyan, and Martiros Saryan—would be withdrawn from circulation due to physical wear and tear.

According to the CBA’s clarification, an official statement released back on July 11, 2017, noted that second-generation banknotes would be withdrawn from circulation only when third-generation banknotes were introduced into currency circulation.
