Risks associated with Roblox and other gaming platforms discussed
On January 29, the Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan held a meeting with parents concerned about their children’s digital safety.
Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan was also present at the meeting.
The meeting was organized following numerous applications received by the Ministry recently regarding Roblox and other similar gaming platforms.
During the discussion, parents presented their concerns and suggestions. As a result of the discussion, it was emphasized that the state’s goal is not to protect children through restrictions or bans, but rather to ensure their digital safety based on education and awareness.
Samvel Martirosyan noted that blocking games is not an effective solution, given the technical possibilities of bypassing them, and it is impossible to ensure the protection of children in the online environment without the active participation of parents.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that the best approach to reducing online risks is increasing parental awareness and media literacy. Parents should be informed about which games their children are playing, what content they might encounter, and what tools can be used to monitor and mitigate risks.
According to the Ministry, certain agreements were reached at the end of the meeting.
