Protests at the start of the Olympic Games

Yesterday, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games held in Milan were accompanied by mass protests against housing issues and environmental impact.

According to activists, the increasing scale of the Olympic Games and urban construction could have a negative impact on the environment and the socio-economic situation of the local population.

According to international media, around 10,000 people took to the streets. During the demonstration, attacks on the police also occurred; protesters used firecrackers, smoke bombs, and bottles. The police used tear gas to prevent the protesters from marching toward the area where the Games are being held.

Protesters also reacted negatively to the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at the Games.

It should be recalled that a delegation led by U.S. Vice President JD Vance also participated in the opening of the Olympic Games.
