Traffic jam on Yerevan-Vanadzor highway due to black ice and accident; traffic restored
A major traffic jam occurred on an approximately 18-kilometer section of the Yerevan-Vanadzor highway, stretching from the settlement of Artashavan to Kuchak, due to black ice and a truck accident.
The “Road Department” Fund informed Amnews that at around 08:30 AM, a truck was involved in an accident and blocked the road, which became the primary cause of the congestion. According to the website, the buildup lasted for about two hours.
According to the Rescue Service, on February 7, at 10:24 AM, an alert was received stating that the road was blocked in both directions in the Aragatsotn region, on the section leading from Artashavan to the “Alphabet Park” (Tareri Purak). Rescuers and patrol officers arrived at the scene.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, about 80 vehicles were caught in the traffic jam. As a result of the joint efforts of rescuers and patrol officers, the congestion was cleared. In total, assistance was provided to 80 vehicles and 170 citizens.
Currently, the road section is passable; cleaning and salt-sand treatment works are underway. Traffic has been restored.
