Another tunnel fully drilled on the new Kajaran-Agarak road
The drilling of the second tunnel has been completed on the 32 km road section under construction between Kajaran and Agarak. This was reported by the Road Department.
According to the statement, the length of the second tunnel is 530 meters, including the portals. Currently, work to ensure clearance dimensions and other tasks stipulated by the project are being carried out in the tunnel.
It is noted that the drilling of the first tunnel in this road section, with a length of 455 meters (including the portals), was completed last year. Concrete lining work is now being performed there.
Construction also continues on other parts of the road; bridge construction and earthwork formation are underway. It is mentioned that the road section will feature 5 traffic lanes with a speed limit of up to 100 km/h.
As a reminder, the Agarak-Kajaran road is being built by a consortium of the Iranian companies “Abad Rahan Pars International Group” and “Tunnel Sadd Ariana.” Excavation works for two tunnels were completed in July and December (thanks to these tunnels, the travel time from the Iranian border to Kapan will be reduced by half an hour, and the travel time from Yerevan to Gyumri will become approximately one hour (currently 1.5–2 hours)). Construction is in progress on the 32 km Kajaran-Agarak section. The road is being built within the framework of the “North-South” modern high-speed highway project, extending from Iran to the Georgian border.
