The “Syunik” Airport in Kapan is being upgraded
The “Syunik” Airport, reopened in 2023, is being upgraded. This was announced by the airport director, Karen Vardanyan.
The installation of new equipment will improve flight safety and reduce flight cancellations due to adverse weather conditions.
The airport is the third civil airport in Armenia to receive an IATA code. Currently, it operates three weekly flights on the Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan route. However, its infrastructure allows the frequency to be increased to five daily flights.
The modernization will also create the conditions for the airport to transition to an international level. Vardanyan explains that the possibility of handling international flights was initially included in the airport’s design. The airport’s infrastructure meets the necessary standards, and in the future, border and customs control will be organized to service such flights.
Flights are operated by the Yerevan-based airline “NovAir” using its “L-410UVP-E20” aircraft (registration number EK-4117), which is designed for 19 passengers.
