TikTok will impose new restrictions on underage users

One of the world’s largest media platforms, TikTok, is introducing new restrictions for its users. The platform has announced a ban on the registration of children under the age of 13.

Additionally, TikTok has imposed restrictions on the use of “beauty filters.” Users under the age of 18 will no longer be able to use filters that alter facial features or add effects such as animal ears, noses, etc.

Each quarter, the platform blocks millions of accounts belonging to underage users.

However, will these restrictions be effective when users can easily falsify their age? To address this issue, TikTok plans to implement a new system that will block accounts with fake age information.

Globally, a significant portion of TikTok users are under the age of 18.

According to the platform Start.io, as of November 2024, more than 93,000 individuals in Armenia use TikTok. This refers to users who have listed Armenia as their country during registration.
