A boxing international tournament was held in Ejmiatsin, where Armenian athletes won gold medals
An international boxing tournament was held at the Hamlet Paturyan Sports School in Ejmiatsin, where many Armenian boxers became winners of the competition. The boxing event, dedicated to Khachik Khachatryan, also featured top boxers from Sweden and Georgia.
The director of the sports school, Robert Paturyan, mentions that this tournament has been held for the third consecutive year, with national teams from more than 10 countries participating.
The invited teams include medalists from the European and World Championships. Boxers from several regions of Armenia are also participating in the tournament. Many Armenian boxers already have a strong reputation in Europe. This is a great opportunity for the invited athletes to compete against our boxers.
The winner of the tournament was also Samvel Siramargyan, the European champion and world runner-up in the youth category. He had a tough match but managed to tip the scales in his favor.
My opponent was strong. It turned out to be a difficult fight, but I won by the number of punches. They could have stopped the match because of my bleeding, but it’s a good thing that didn’t happen, and I won.
Recently returning from the Youth World Championship with a bronze medal, Raphael Nersisyan also managed to stand on the top step of the podium. This was his first match in the senior category, and it was a valuable experience before the Armenian Championship.
I had a good performance in my first senior match. I achieved victory mainly due to my technique. There were some issues, like my breathing, which I really need to work on.
Arthur Khachatryan, the son of Khachik Khachatryan and one of the coaches at the sports school, notes that the B-class international tournament will continue annually. He hopes that it will improve every year, with more countries participating, and eventually, it will become an A-class competition.
We had 10 representatives from our sports school, 7 of whom reached the top of the podium, and three won bronze medals. The tournament was held at a high level. This tournament aimed to present our country through culture. Coaches and athletes are leaving with great impressions.
Khachik Khachatryan also spoke about the tournament and the performances of his athletes. The coach mentioned that around 12 countries wanted to participate, but since the tournament could not accommodate such a large scale, they did not come to Armenia.
We aim to increase the number of participating countries to eight next year. This will allow our athletes to gain even more experience. My students proved that they are world and European champions and medalists. I am very happy.
