
After 7 consecutive draws, Gukesh defeated Liren in the battle for the World Champion title
The winner of the Candidates Tournament, India’s representative Gukesh Dommaraju, achieved victory over reigning World Champion, Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren, in the 11th round of the 2024 Chess World Championship.
The score now stands at 6:5 in favor of the Indian grandmaster after 11 rounds. Playing with the white pieces, Gukesh secured his win in 29 moves. Before this game, the players had recorded seven consecutive draws.
The player who scores 7.5 points or more will be crowned World Champion. If the score remains tied after 14 games, the champion will be decided in a rapid chess playoff.
The 12th game will begin on December 9. Ding Liren will play with the white pieces.
