A Russian metallurgical company is set to purchase Armenia’s most successful club
One of the Ural-based metallurgical companies is close to acquiring Yerevan’s “Pyunik” football club. This was announced by Legalbet.
In September, the current owner and president of the Armenian champion “Pyunik,” Arthur Sogomonyan, announced his intention to sell the club. He stated “the main and sole reason for this decision is the persecution from the leadership of the Football Federation of Armenia, which has been ongoing for over two years.”
Soghomonyan became the owner of “Pyunik” in 2017 when the family of former Football Federation of Armenia president Ruben Hayrapetyan transferred all ownership rights of the club to him free of charge.
During his ownership, the club has won the Armenian championship twice and participated in the group stage of the Conference League.
“Pyunik” is the most successful football club in the country. It won the domestic league 16 times, the Armenian Cup 8 times, and the Supercup 10 times. Currently, the club is third in the league with 37 points.
