Talakhadze Congratulates Lalayan on Becoming World Champion
The newly crowned world champion, Varazdat Lalayan, has received congratulations from Lasha Talakhadze, a three-time Olympic champion and seven-time World and European champion from Georgia.
In an interview with Public TV, the head coach of Armenia’s men’s weightlifting team, Pashik Alaverdyan, mentioned that Talakhadze, now a member of the Georgian Parliament, congratulated the Armenian athlete via video call.
In his message, Talakhadze expressed confidence that the super heavyweight category is now in the best hands, adding that Lalayan should win as he once did.
It should be noted that Varazdat Lalayan, an Olympic silver medalist, became the world champion in the super heavyweight category at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Manama, Bahrain. Lalayan successfully completed all three attempts in the snatch. He lifted 206 kg in his first attempt, added 5 kg in his second, and held 215 kg overhead in his third attempt, securing a small gold medal.
The Armenian weightlifter was also recently awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Armenia.
