Australian Open: Karen Khachanov Starts with a Victory, Elina Avanesyan Exits the Tournament
Karen Khachanov, the silver medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games and the world’s 19th-ranked tennis player, began the 2025 Australian Open with a win.
In the first round, Khachanov defeated French player Adrian Mannarino. He is ranked 75th in the world. Khachanov secured a challenging victory in the first set, winning 7:6 in a tiebreak. He dominated the next two sets, both ending 6:3, and will advance to the second round. The match lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.
In the next round, Khachanov will face Gabriel Diallo from Canada. He is ranked 89th in the world.
In the women’s competition, Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan, who had climbed three positions in the rankings (currently 41st), lost in the opening match to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, the world’s 23rd-ranked player.
The match lasted 2 hours and 9 minutes, ending with a score of 4:6, 7:5, 6:2 in favor of Putintseva.
