The Champion of the Future: David Simonyan Strives for New Victories

The year 2023 was unprecedented for Armenian boxing. Yerevan hosted both the Youth World Championship and the European Junior Championship. Armenian boxers secured an impressive total of 59 medals. There were over 20 championship titles. Among these champions was David Simonyan.

This young athlete, who fell in love with boxing at the age of 11, likely didn’t imagine that years later, he would become a champion in his homeland, proudly representing Armenia as the national anthem played in his honor.

In 2024, Simonyan came close to repeating his success, but it didn’t materialize. Reflecting on that match, the boxer shared what he believed cost him the gold medal.

David Simonyan is one of the standout athletes in Armenian boxing, having achieved the title of six-time Armenian champion (across youth and junior categories). Next year, Simonyan will enter the adult competition, where he aims to mark his debut with a gold medal.

Daily training sessions keep the young boxer motivated. He shares that, like all athletes, he too has weaknesses, but he is dedicated to overcoming them.

The psychological work of the coach has borne fruit, as David says he has no fear, neither of stepping into the ring nor of climbing into the ring beforehand.

The Armenian athlete has set big goals for himself. He sees himself only in boxing. He is confident that this is just the beginning. He will do even more.
