Pashikyan and Pezeshkian discuss development of strategic cooperation document between Armenia and Iran
On February 24, during a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirmed Tehran’s intention to finalize the document on comprehensive strategic cooperation with Armenia.
According to the official website of the Iranian President, Pezeshkian characterized the strengthening of relations with Armenia as one of the key priorities of Iran’s foreign policy. He emphasized the necessity of deepening cooperation in the political, economic, transport, and energy sectors.
The Iranian President welcomed the peace treaty process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting Tehran’s commitment to regional stability. Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the progress of corridor projects (as defined by the Iranian side) and construction programs, thanking Yerevan for supporting the activities of Iranian companies in the Armenian market.
Suren Papikyan highly praised the existing cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries, describing it as a stable relationship of strategic significance for Armenia.
As a reminder, prior to the meeting with the President, Suren Papikyan departed for the Islamic Republic of Iran on an official visit on February 23. Subsequently, on February 24 in Tehran, he also held negotiations with the Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics of the IRI, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, and the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Musavi.
During those meetings, topics related to bilateral military cooperation and regional security were discussed. A formal welcoming ceremony for Suren Papikyan took place at the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
