Illegal Logging in Tavush Region

In Armenia, the number of tree cuttings increases during the autumn-winter period due to colder weather. The law prohibits any logging that has not been approved by the relevant state authority. However, violations of this law are frequent.

A resident of Berd in the Tavush region has conducted illegal logging in the “Berd Forest Enterprise” area. Investigations revealed that during October and November, he cut down 35 trees, causing damage of 1.6 million AMD to the state. This was reported by the police.

On November 28, another case of illegal logging was recorded in the Tavush region. In the “Navur Forest Enterprise” area, two residents were found cutting down more than 18 trees. Both villagers were arrested, and a criminal case has been initiated.

Illegal logging is subject to administrative and criminal penalties, depending on the severity of the environmental damage caused.
