Nikol Pashinyan has traveled to Russia
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has traveled to Russia on a working visit to participate in the regular session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
The session’s agenda includes discussions on further deepening integration and expanding cooperation in areas such as energy, industry, and the development of e-commerce.
Starting in January 2024, Armenia will assume the presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for one year. This October, Yerevan hosted the third session of the council. Despite Pashinyan’s earlier statements about Armenia considering itself effectively outside the CSTO. The president still emphasizes the importance of cooperation with the CIS and EAEU, noting that the CIS benefits Armenia.
The EAEU session was initially expected to take place in Yerevan. However, in December, Pashinyan deemed it inappropriate to hold the event in Armenia, citing the undesirability of certain members of the EAEU Supreme Economic Council for Armenia.
It is reported that during the May 8 session of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council in Moscow, it was decided to hold the next session in St. Petersburg. In 2025, the presidency of the EAEU will be transferred to Belarus.
