The official has been sentenced to life imprisonment
On December 13, 2024, the Yerevan City Court made a decision and upheld the prosecutor’s motion to sentence Daniel Danielyan to life imprisonment. Danielyan had previously served as the head of the Police “Road Police” Service’s violation recording center through video surveillance.
On May 3, 2018, Police Colonel Daniel Danielyan committed a robbery attempt with the intention of stealing $500,000 from the “HSBC Bank Armenia” CJSC “Komitas” branch. He killed one of the bank’s security officers and wounded another with a firearm.
Danielyan attempted to shoot one of the security officers in the abdomen with a carbine he had with him. The officer actively resisted. As fired, the barrel of the weapon was pointed downward, and the shot hit the floor, causing the weapon to fall. Immediately afterward, Danielyan struck the officer in the chest and head areas with a knife. However, Danielyan failed to complete the act because the officer had hidden behind a wall.
The court found Daniel Danielyan guilty not only of robbery but also of murder and attempted murder. He was also charged with illegal possession of a weapon. Danielyan was sentenced to life imprisonment as the final punishment.
