The Nobel Prize winners in economics have been announced.

In 2024, the Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Daron Acemoglu, who is of Armenian descent. He shares the prize with Simon Johnson and James Robinson. Their research examines the consequences of colonization to understand why global inequality persists in certain countries, especially in those plagued by corruption and dictatorship. In their studies, they demonstrated the detrimental effects colonization can have, highlighting high mortality rates and the lack of well-being in such regions.

Daron Acemoglu is an American economist of Armenian descent. He was born in Turkey in 1967. Acemoglu and Johnson work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), while Robinson works at the University of Chicago.
