A wastewater treatment plant will be built in the Ararat region
The construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Ararat city has begun under the 2024 subsidy program. The construction work is expected to be completed by 2025.
The sewage systems of the OKF Banavan district and Ararat village are not connected to the city’s sewer collection system, and the untreated wastewater is currently discharged into an open drainage system. This causes significant environmental damage, leads to the degradation of agricultural land, and becomes a source of disease transmission. A drainage system was constructed in the village in 2022.
The new project will utilize modern technologies to treat the wastewater. The treated water that exits the plant will be used for irrigation purposes in agriculture.
Currently, Armenia operates six wastewater treatment plants using mechanical treatment, located in Vardenis, Martuni, Gavarr, Dilijan, Jermuk, and Yerevan.
