
Radik Matevosyan, the defendant in the case of the fire at the Azat Village military barracks, will be imprisoned
The Investigative Committee reports that the criminal proceedings concerning the death of 15 servicemen in the military barracks of Azat Village, in which Radik Matevosyan is accused, have been completed. Matevosyan has been charged under Article 543, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. This article stipulates that a person on duty in a military unit who negligently causes human casualties by violating the rules of internal service may be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of three to six years. As a reminder, the fire at the military barracks in Azat Village on January 19, 2023, resulted in the death of 15 servicemen and injured 7 others. Within the framework of the criminal case, Gor Aghekyan and Marlen Sargsyan were also identified as defendants. Initially, house arrest was chosen as a preventive measure for them, but on October 7 and 11, the Court of Appeals of Armenia replaced it with detention.
