Russia and Iran to Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement

On January 17, in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will meet. Following the negotiations, the two countries will sign a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced this.

According to Lavrov, the agreement is not directed against any country and has a constructive nature. Its goal is to strengthen the capabilities of Russia and Iran in various parts of the world. Last October, the minister noted that the agreement would establish the parties’ commitment to closer cooperation in the defense sector and collaboration for peace and security on both regional and global levels.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran is set for a duration of 20 years. However, after its signing, the agreement will need to be ratified by Iran’s parliament.

Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, stated that the agreement includes 47 articles and covers all sectors. However, since work on the agreement’s text began in 2022, no specific details have been disclosed.
