Putin and Pashinyan Had a Phone Conversation
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they discussed several important topics, including the outcomes of Armenia’s presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), upcoming initiatives within the EAEU framework, and issues on the bilateral agenda. This was reported by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Russian side noted that the conversation was initiated by Armenia and that topics included further deepening of integration cooperation, especially in the energy sector, as well as the practical benefits available to Armenia’s economy within the EAEU framework.
It was mentioned that Pashinyan clarified Armenia’s recent steps in the context of its relations with the European Union, while Putin provided relevant comments and assessments, the details of which were not disclosed.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated that discussions on Armenia’s potential accession to the European Union mark the beginning of its departure from the Eurasian Economic Union. Similarly, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov declared that “EAEU membership is ‘incompatible’ with Armenia’s desire to join the EU.”
