The National Assembly to Discuss the Official Version and Recording of Armenia’s Anthem
The National Assembly will discuss the official version and recording of Armenia’s anthem. Sisak Gabrielyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports of the National Assembly, stated during the first reading that the anthem must have an official version and recording.
According to Gabrielyan, a unified standard must be established for one of Armenia’s most important symbols, including a specific text, duration, music, rhythm, and a uniform approach to the short version of the anthem, which should last between 25–30 seconds, and also mentioned that the anthem should begin and end with words about Armenia. Gabrielyan added that after the amendments to the law, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MoESCS) will publish the official version of the anthem on the government’s official website. The anthem’s official recording will include both an a cappella version and one performed solely by an orchestra.
According to Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, the changes to the law “On the National Anthem of the Republic of Armenia” are an urgent issue. She noted, “From now on, we should no longer feel ashamed when we are invited to an event and hear an anthem version we would rather not have heard.” The minister believes it is essential to establish a rule for attendees to sing along during public events.
As of November 28, 2024, the last stanza of the anthem will become the 2nd, while the 2nd and 3rd stanzas will be moved to the 3rd and 4th positions, respectively.
